Click to EnlargeIn 1804 a pioneering family in Kentucky built a log barn from aged poplar trees. It was hand hewn and constructed to withstand the damages of weather and time. Thomas Jefferson was America's President, Lewis and Clark began their historic expedition, and in Europe, Beethoven was still composing symphonies. The pioneers were able to take precious few belongings with them when they headed west, so homesteads remained behind.

In 1997,  a restoration crew brought this family's humble beginnings to Fredericksburg, Texas.  The barn was dismantled and moved west of Buffalo Gap, Texas in March of 1998.  The one and one half story, 20x20 log structure was reassembled by a crew from Fredericksburg.  It contains the original floor made of walnut, oak, and pine, original rafters and walls.  Additional antique lumber was used to complete the added bathroom and kitchen.

Today, the iron bed, claw foot tub and antiques blend charm with the comforts of music and homemade pie ( for a late snack).  A continental breakfast of fresh fruits, cereals and homemade waffles are included, to be prepared at your leisure.
